Our
History

Katherine South Primary School is situated on Riverbank Drive in the town of Katherine, in the Northern Territory of Australia.

The school was opened in 1976 in makeshift accommodation at the Katherine Showgrounds. Demount-able classrooms were provided in the middle of that year on the southern side of the oval while building went ahead on the present site. The late Les Macfarlane, then Member for Elsey, officially opened the permanent school buildings on 14 September 1979.

The school is semi open plan. It features separate buildings connected by covered walkways surrounding grassed play areas. The grounds are spacious and provide pleasant shady areas for outdoor activities. The school is fully air-conditioned.

Katherine South is attended by approximately 400 children which includes our 2 Preschools, Katherine South Preschool and Tindal Preschool, up to Year 6.
